Windows Server 2008 RTM/SP1 Hibernation on by default!

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

Good find by my friend Leigh…Refer to this article for more information: http://www.expta.com/2007/09/windows-server-2008-hibernation.htmlBut in a nutshell it’s on by default on Windows Server 2008 RTM /SP1 however not R2. To disable it, first make sure hidden OS files are shown. If it is enabled then on the root of  c: drive there is a hiberfil.sys consuming the equivalent of the amount of memory on the system.

Run the following command to disable:
powercfg.exe -h off
powercfg.exe /hibernate off
